The Control Room is a location featured in the prison in Dead Island. It is the main security control centre for the prison and was staffed by multiple guards who would monitor the prison via a bank of security cameras hooked up to screens.
The heroes first visit the control room at the end of the main quest Devil's Labyrinth. After being gassed in the elevator and the cure stolen, they awake in the control room with Kevin, Yerema and Jin. After Kevin fills them in about being gassed and Ryder White stealing the cure before heading to the roof, they leave the area to pursue him through the prison hospital.
The area appears once again in the Ryder White's Campaign DLC where Charon directs the heroes and Ryder from it. Ryder is sent off to do tasks for Kevin who is essentially holding him hostage by saying that he can save his wife, who has already turned but Ryder refuses to believe it. While doing tasks for Charon across the prison to prepare for the heroes to arrive with the cure, Ryder keeps on hearing Charon talking to people using the control room control panel and microphone. This starts growing doubts in his mind about Charon really helping him, but he is forced to go along with it anyway under the notion that his wife could still be saved. Charon remains in the control room while White goes about his tasks until it all comes to a head, Ryder steals the cure from the heroes after they have been gasses and locks Charon inside the cage that surrounds the screens and control panel. However, Charon laughs at him and reveals a back-up keycard that allows him to open the door as Ryder leaves, allowing Charon to talk to the heroes and turn them against White.
Layout[]
The control room consists of one main upper room with a staircase down to a lower section. Down here there's nothing of note other than a central wall which is covered with wires and electrical systems, the same as the rest of the lower walls. In the section above, there's a couple of desks set up against one of the walls which have a computer on them, likely monitoring other aspects of the prison. The main space is taken up by a large cage which has a door to enter it. Inside here there's a large control panel which is facing a whole bank of screens. These screens normally connect to the whole CCTV system which is found throughout the prison, allowing monitoring guards to quickly spot any trouble brewing and send other guards to stop it.
Notes[]
- In both campaigns, there's a workbench just inside the caged area.
- In Ryder White's Campaign, there's a box of ammo next to it.
- In Ryder White's Campaign you can find one of Emily's recordings on one of the desks outside of the cage.
- The CCTV screens should really only see and connect to the CCTV within the prison, but somehow they have access to any camera on the entire island. It's not known how or why this is, but perhaps Charon hacked the system to allow him access to the entire island rather then just the prison.
