The Cleaver is a sharp melee weapon featured in Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide. It can be sold by various Merchants and found in Metal chests or on killed Zombies. It can only appear up until player level 24, at which point it will no longer spawn.
Overview[]
The Cleaver is a perfectly cromulent, serviceable, early game weapon. It features high damage for the early part of the game, and excels at severing limbs and heads. It can easily take on individual or doubles of Walkers and Infected, though it will struggle against larger groups. It also has basically no force and very low durability, though also a quick swing speed and low stamina usage. As such, it will require a lot of repair and upkeep to remain at a high durability, and prolonged usage will result in breaking. It is, however, not advised to use this weapon against Special Infected due to a short weapon reach, which will easily allow things like Thugs to retaliate.

- Rodrigue at Saint Christopher's Church can also sell one.
- Florencio Morales at the Warehouse can sell one after completing his side quest Spicy Drinks.
- Both Kurt Keeble and Eric Cotner in Moresby can sell one.
- In Riptide, Zoey can sell a Cleaver dependant on how many levels of her Team Quest Best Merchandise for Zoey have been completed.
