Claws are a hand-to-hand weapon introduced in Dead Island: Riptide. Claws can be found all over the island, as well as in metal chests. They can also be sold randomly by merchants. It is also given out as a reward in a few quests.
Overview[]
Claws are essentially spiked brass knuckles on steroids. They have a quick swing speed, medium damage, no range and weak knockback. Because of how fast they are swung, they are one of the best hand-to-hand weapons to use as the damage they can deal can rack up a lot quicker than comparable brass knuckles. They can also accept some decent mods, increasing their damage potential, especially with regards to the bleed effect. Due to their high swing speed, you are far more likely to get a critical hit while swinging them and a lot quicker. This can help end quickly. However, their major drawback is, like all hand-to-hand weapons, the absolute lack of range. You will often need to slug it out face-to-face with a zombie if you can't circle strafe them and they will often get in the first hit before you can hit them back. They are therefore to be used cautiously rather than wading into groups of zombies, as you can't easily deal damage from range.
