The City Tunnel is a location in Dead Island close to the City Tunnel Gas Station which connects the Resort area to the City of Moresby. It is travelled through in Act I and Act II.
The players can be requested to go to the city tunnel as early as Act I, as John Sinamoi requests the heroes collect two packs of juice boxes, one of which must be found in the City Tunnel Gas Station. The side quest Waterdance automatically triggers when the heroes arrive at the gas station, during which the players have to climb up to an operational platform above the entrance of the tunnel to shut down one of the electrical switches.
After acquiring the Bank of Banoi armoured truck and having it heavily armoured in Born to be Wild and Misery Wagon, the heroes are then requested to drive the Armored Truck to the City of Moresby through the tunnel in order to find supplies for the Lifeguard Tower, with Jin in tow. After a trail of troublesome incidents, the supplies are successfully collected with the help of the survivors in the Saint Christopher's Church and the heroes drive back to the Resort through the tunnel.
Layout[]
The tunnel itself is sunk through the mountain, with strong brick reinforcement in an arch over the top. Despite its size, however, it is completely blocked by a large number of burning wrecks due to the citizens in Moresby trying to flee to the Resort area and vice versa during the opening stages of the outbreak. As a result, the road through the tunnel was gridlocked, causing numerous accidents and acting as a killing ground for the infected. Above the entrance is a maintenance walkway accessible by a ladder. However, the ladder has been partly destroyed by a crashed car and requires stacked crates to access.
Inside the tunnel are several burned and burning cars from which Infected on fire will sprint out. This makes it relatively dangerous to get up to the walkway due to the speed at which the Infected close the gap. Two crashed coaches are blocking the tunnel, with the burning cars trapped between them being the reason the Infected are in flames.
Notes[]
- Although the City Tunnel has a Fast Travel point and can be used as early as the start of Act I, it is a single-journey travel, which means you cannot select City Tunnel as destination from other Fast Travel Stations. It is not until the heroes return to the Resort with Jin in Act II that the City Tunnel can become a "function-intact" fast travel point.
- Burning Infected spawn endlessly in the City Tunnel, and will charge at the players if they are too close to the entrance of the tunnel.
- This is the only location where Burning Infected appear in the Resort.
