The Canteen is a Safe House in Dead Island located in the Prison.
During the events of Dead Island, the Canteen is the only safe house in the Prison. When the Heroes make their way to the prison, Mowen brings them into the canteen where the majority of the surviving prisoners are living. After entering, the Heroes are confronted by the current leader, Titus Kabui.
After completing a couple of missions, prisoners begin a riot to remove Titus as the leader of the canteen. The noise generated from the riot brings a horde of infected who quickly overrun the canteen. Kevin, Jin, and Yerema were the only ones to survive.
Layout[]
The Canteen is laid out as a large square area, with a dividing wall in the middle. There are many tables and chairs around for meal times, while a small serving area is built backed onto the double doors into the kitchen. When the Prison was infected, a bunch of prisoners banded together to secure the canteen as a safe place, bringing in a few mattresses and other things to slightly improve their comfort. There are three doors out of the canteen. One leading to the psychiatrist office, one set of double doors leading to other corridors of the prison and a final set of double doors leading from the serving area to the kitchen.

Notes[]
- It is the only safe house in the prison and, like all prison locations, doesn't have a fast travel map.
- There's an unnamed prison who stands just outside of the canteen. If you listen to what he says after you complete each main quest, it hints towards the final fate of the canteen. It also hints at him and some of the disgruntled prisoners rebelling against Titus, causing the fall of the canteen.
