Colonel Briggs was a character mentioned in Dead Island: Riptide. He was a colonel of the Australian Defence Force and the commander of the Henderson Military Base during the zombie outbreak on Palanai Island.[1] A friend of Samuel Hardy,[1][2] he was in charge of the base and defense of Henderson. He had contact with Frank Serpo and the Consortium, initially not interfering with the "test" of spreading Kuru on Palanai, resulting in the outbreak.[3] However, when the "test" began to get out of the Consortium's control, Briggs started to question and disobey his orders, deciding to close the base when it was in danger of being overrun.[4][5] Unfortunately, it was not enough, and the base was overrun, killing all personnel, including Briggs.[6] This was unbeknownst to Hardy, who, upon being shipwrecked on the island, encourages the Heroes to seek out Briggs at the base in hopes of contacting the fleet offshore and being rescued.[7] When he is told of Briggs' demise, he is upset at the loss of his friend as well as the failed attempt to get off the island.
Notes[]
- Whilst his body is never identified, we can assume that he was killed in the command center of the base when it was overrun, due to his status as the commander.
- Assuming that the "General B" referenced in the Secret Files is Briggs, it means that either the secret files or Samuel Hardy is incorrect in regards to his rank. The files state him to be a general; however, Hardy claims he is a colonel.
