“Who said zombies can't jump?”
— Cliff Calo's thoughts on first seeing a Bouncer
The Bouncer is a special zombie encountered in Escape Dead Island. It is first encountered in the Narapela Jungle when Cliff Calo and his friends leave the mountaintop. It is the zombie type responsible for infecting Linda.
Overview[]
Bouncers are tough, unique zombies encountered on Narapela. They're fast like Infected and have a unique attack style. They can jump long distances and appear smarter than the average zombie, as they keep hidden and out of range before they attack, leaping in, attacking a few times before running off again.
Appearance[]
Bouncers are zombies that are not wearing a shirt, only trousers and shoes. They have the same pale skin with bloody hands and mouth from eating bodies. Their trousers are often ripped and show signs of wear or damage from when the survivor was first infected. Because they are not wearing anything on their torso, it is easy to see that they kept most of their muscle mass when they turned into a zombie, making them powerful, dangerous and fast.
Behaviour[]
Bouncers are the very definition of an ambush predator. They will often wait in cover such as bushes or foliage for prey to walk near them. Then, while the prey is distracted and not looking out for danger, they pounce, quite literally, on the survivor. Thanks to their muscle mass, they can leap long distances and grapple onto the survivor before they know what's happening. If, for whatever reason, they don't manage to grab on, the Bouncer will take a few swipes before retreating to a safe distance to observe the survivor. This shows them as being one of the smarter zombies, as if they still have some self preservation to get out of attacking range. It's not all still there, however, as they will keep trying until either they die or the survivor dies.
Other Bouncers[]
Shadow Bouncer[]
Shadow Bouncers are Shadow Zombies made up in Cliff's mind. They will act like a Bouncer. Shadow Bouncers have 1/3 more health then their non-shadow variant.
Strategy[]
- Due to how fast they are, using a firearm is not advised as they can leap great distances and run very quickly, making them difficult to hit from range.
- The best strategy is to dodge their leap and attack them while they're still landing. After the initial leap, they are vulnerable to a few hits.
- If you're lucky, a heavy attack from your melee weapon can knock them down, allowing you to execute them, but this is very rare, if not impossible to do.
- Because of their long leap attack, it is possible to stand near an environmental hazard such as electrical wires and bait the Bouncer into attacking. When it leaps, dodge out the way and it's possible for the Bouncer to sail right into the electricity, killing it. Just make sure you don't dodge into the wires yourself.
- If you can sneak up on one, stealth killing is possible, but hard to do as quite often you won't see it until it actually attacks you.
- If it's near some explosive barrels and you have a gun on you, it is possible to shoot the barrels and explode the Bouncer.
- While a Bouncer is recovering from a missed leap, they can be knocked down with a push, allowing you to execute them afterwards. Note that a running kick does however not knock them to ground during this time period.
- Like Butchers, Bouncers can often be lured to jump of the edge of the map by dodging their leap attack while standing near the edge of the map.
Damage and Health[]
- Bouncers have 30 HP.
- Their attacks deal the following damage:
- Hit = 3
- Leap = 3
- Shadow Bouncers have 40 HP.
- Their attacks deal the following damage:
- Hit = 5
- Bite = 5
- Leap = 6
Notes[]
- Bouncers share similar things with the Infected and Butchers.
- Taking a picture of the Bouncer with the Camera gives Snapshot 9.
