A Big Universal Axe is a variant of the Two-Handed Axe featured in Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide. It can be sold by Merchants or found in Metal chests or dropped by killed Zombies.
Overview[]
As a two handed weapon, the Big Universal Axe falls into the same sort of stats and playstyle as a Fire Axe, with medium damage, still higher than a two handed blunt weapon like a Sledgehammer but lower than same levelled hand handed sharp weapons. It does, however, have superior force stats to a one handed sharp weapon, as well as surprisingly good durability for a sharp weapon. It also, however, has a high stamina drain and slow swing speed. Whilst this makes it a good weapon for taking on hordes of Walkers, it is especially useful for taking on Thugs or tougher enemies like Wrestlers due to its decent damage for a two handed weapon. It also has a long weapon reach, allowing you to hit them from outside their own melee range, which helps make up for your slow swing speed. It's not as good for dealing with faster enemies like Infected, Butchers or Screamers, as if you miss a swing, they can easily kill you before you can swing again, since the slow attack speed of the Big Universal Axe and its overall poor handling statistics means it will take longer to either swing again or switch to a different weapon, which could leave you open to being swarmed and killed.

- Keenan Fisher in the River Village can sell one after getting his stock back at the end of the main quest Chasing Shadows.
- Both Sebastian Black and Michael Stick in the Mingende Jungle can sell one.
- Joel Dirt at the Laboratory can also sell one.
- Trevor Rogers in Riptide can sell one after completing a level or two of his Team Quest Best Merchandise for Trevor Rogers.
