“We request that all citizens please remain inside. Anyone out on the street will be considered hostile, and dealt with accordingly.”

The Banoi Island Defense Force, abbreviated as B.I.D.F., is a military force in Dead Island tasked with defending the island of Banoi.
Dead Island[]
The B.I.D.F. are first heard of at the end of Act II, when the Heroes contact The Voice during the main quest Bird on the Roof. While talking to The Voice, they demand to know who they are before agreeing to anything else they say. The Voice reveals themselves to be Ryder White, who introduces himself as a Colonel in the B.I.D.F, stuck on the Prison off-shore. However, the name of the organization is all we learn from this, as well as information that the entire B.I.D.F fleet is stuck 80 miles off-shore in the middle of a monsoon storm, preventing any airborne evacuation from the island.
More is learned about the B.I.D.F during the side quest Spy Game during Act III. While recording a transmission at the Jungle Antenna station, the Heroes hear one side of a conversation between a B.I.D.F soldier off-shore and a Colonel, possibly Ryder White. From this conversation, we learn that the fleet is blockading the island, preventing any ships or aircraft from getting in or out, using force if necessary. We hear that a fishing boat tried to leave the island but was blown up with no witnesses and, presumably, no survivors.
At the end of Act IV, when the player tries to reach the last helicopter out, Ryder sends his men to finish the Hero. During this confrontation on the Prison rooftop, the Heroes have to fight off both living B.I.D.F soldiers and well as possible undead soldiers when White blows up the doors to the roof, allowing zombies to stream up. In the last battle, some infected members of the B.I.D.F. attack the player along with Infected White.
Bloodbath Arena[]
In the Bloodbath Arena DLC, a small unit of B.I.D.F. soldiers commanded by a Major named Dixon were sent to an old bunker that was supposed to be an evacuation point as well as a quarantine area. As the virus spread rampant throughout Banoi, the evac point was overrun, and all the 'safe haven' exits for the civilians turned into massacre sites for the zombies, creating feeding grounds for thousands of them. Major Dixon and his men were ordered to stay and clear up the hordes now infesting the old evacuation points. They decided to turn their orders into a "game", with Dixon allowing his men to take on hordes of zombies alone to see how long they could survive in the evac points, now branded as 'arenas' to fighting the undead. The Heroes soon come across the bunker and are allowed by Major Dixon to participate in the "game".
Ryder White's Campaign[]
The B.I.D.F plays a large part in the DLC campaign where they tried to contain and control the outbreak on Banoi. At least 6 units of B.I.D.F. soldiers were present in Moresby at the beginning of the outbreak tasked with keeping the peace, setting up a quarantine zone and keeping the living inside their homes and off the streets amongst other tasks. However, they were hampered due to numerous factors such as the zombies and living civilians but most tellingly the numerous raskol gangs found in the city. Taking advantage of the outbreak and chaos on the streets, the raskols came out in force to loot and kill anyone who got in their way, including both police and military personnel. Once such military unit was B.I.D.F Unit 4, tasked by Ryder White to blow up the city bridge to prevent the infection spreading to the rest of the island. Unit 4 was travelling in a motorized column of jeeps with mounted heavy weapons and a crate full of C4 plastic explosives. However, due to contact with both the infected and raskol gangs, they were on-and-off from the vehicles and trapped in a storefront at one point. Before getting anywhere close to the bridge, Unit 4 was down to half strength before being ambushed and killed out the front of Saint Christopher's Church by a raskol group who killed them all and stole all their equipment and weapons, including the explosives. Other units had various crates of weapons paradropped for them into the city, but very few of them were able to get to them, either due to a bad drop location or the destruction of the squad. As such, most of those drops were found by either survivors or the raskol gangs rather than the army units they were intended for. As a result of all this, the army failed to keep control of the outbreak and it spread to the rest of the island. Very few of the soldiers deployed into Moresby were able to be evacuated, leaving too few men to protect the rest of the island and prevent an island wide outbreak.

- Andrew Meisner refers to the B.I.D.F as just the BDF, meaning its is unofficially just called the Banoi Defense Force.
Trivia[]
- In various places in the Japanese Tunnels in Dead Island: Riptide, wooden crates with the B.I.D.F. acronym can be found. It's unknown why they are here, but it's either because the B.I.D.F. was aiding chemical clean-up in the tunnels or because they cover the defense of Palanai Island as well as Banoi.
- Alternatively, it could just be that the developers re-used the asset and didn't change the text on it when making Riptide.
