The Banoi Airport is an inaccessible and unknown location on Banoi Island mentioned in Dead Island.
Layout[]
Even though the airport is not seen in game, and can't be travelled to, we can assume some things about it based on various prompts in game. During regular operations, the airport would have ferried tourists and holiday makes alike to the island for a quaint island getaway. From what we know, the airport would have been a decent size, with an air traffic control tower, at least one or two runways, a hanger and a check-in and guest lounge.
Appearances[]
Dead Island[]
We first learn about the airport during the main quest Exodus, were upon entering the Lifeguard Tower's garage, we hear the mayday call of Oceanic Flight 1012 coming from a radio on top of the workbench. During the mayday, we hear the pilot ask 'Ground control, do you read?', meaning he was contacting the control tower of the airport. When we open up to the roof of the Tower, we see the doomed plane fly overhead to crash into the Jungle.
Dead Island: The Book[]
The airport is also mentioned in the book, as the first chapter takes place on an aircraft coming in to land at the airport. It is also where we meet three of the heroes (Purna, Logan and Sam B). Unfortunately, we don't see any of the airport, as the chapter ends as the plane comes in to land and resumes in the next chapter with the heroes checking in to the Royal Palms Resort. However, we do learn that one airline company serving Banoi is New Guinea Airlines.
Dead Island film 2017 draft[]
The airport briefly appears in the 2017 draft of the Dead Island film where the airline company that the main characters travel with loose their baggage, causing them to be stranded on Banoi and have to work at the hotel. Not much is shown or told about the airport, and as the script was never used, nothing much is given away about the airport.
Possible access to the airport[]
- Past the wrecked bus, near a rock slide near the mechanic's workshop.
- The ruined highway in the Jungle.
- Over the bridge in Moresby
