The Antenna Tower is a location in the Jungle featured in Dead Island. When Matutero was attacked at the River Village by Afrans organisation[1], his lieutenant Vargas and their combined Soldiers, Afran goes with Mowen's Boat while Vargas goes with some of his soldiers to the Antenna tower.[1] The Heroes first go to the Antenna during the side Quest Death Wish where they must kill Vargas[2], and they are also tasked with Nick in Moresby to record a transmission at the antenna tower to find out if the military has anything to do with the outbreak on the island in the side quest Spy Game.[3] The tower will later become abandoned after the heroes kill Vargas and his Security at the base.[4]
Layout[]
The antenna relay is a small compound based around a tall radio tower and its associated systems. There's one dirt road that leads into it, while the compound buildings are surrounded by a metal fence. The main fence door is broken down due to a crashed car, allowing entrance to the location. There's one large building and a smaller shed, while some walkways allow access to the roof of the large building. The larger building is the radio station, which houses the equipment, while the smaller shed is inaccessible though a ladder allows access to the roof. There are some metal, chest high walls on the metal walkways and some ladders allow access to the upper walkways and roof. The tower itself doesn't have a ladder to climb to the top. Inside the main building there are some lootable lockers that the staff would have used, while several computer and electronic banks provide the power to operate and transmit via the tower. There's a hasty barricade that Vargas set up in the transmission room to provide himself some cover, but it can easily be leapt over.[5]
Notes[]
- The enemies found in the area are usually Vargas Soldiers and Bodyguards but outside there is usually two Infected to the dirt road entrance.
- When you first arrive, Vargas and his bodyguards will be using rifles while the other soldiers use pistols. If you keep all the weapons, you can easily make around 10k or more cash from selling them.
- There's a metal chest hidden behind a small inaccessible shed at the bottom right of the compound. You access it by climbing onto the roof of the shed via a ladder.
- There's also a metal chest behind the barricade where Vargas is located.
- You can bring the two infected outside into the base, But this can be risky since the infected will be at first most likely focused on you. And unlike other zombies, Since Infected are technically still survivors but slowly turning into a zombie they can easily be killed by a group of Soldiers in the base with just a few shots. So it is quite pointless doing so anyway.
- Despite being able to Fast Travel here, there's no fast travel map to travel from, requiring you to walk all the way to either a vehicle or other fast travel point.
Trivia[]
- There are two notice pin boards in the main building behind the barricade Vargas is located behind. All the notices and sticky notes on it are backwards, as the model was likely not mirrored correctly when placed in the world.
- It is unknown who the two infected found outside are, But they're either most likely Jungle Muggers or Survivors infected or Members of Afran's gang who are slowly turning into undead Walkers.
Transmission transcript[]
“Yes Colonel... all access to the island has been severed. Ships are deployed around the entire perimeter. A bloody minnow couldn't slip through. There haven't been any problems apart from one minor incident. A fishing boat tried to get through to the island. I already dispatched a patrol after it. Yes, sir. Affirmative. no witnesses...[6]”
