The Abandoned Movie Set is a Dead Zone found in the Flooded jungle and featured in Dead Island: Riptide. It's one of the many dead zones scattered around the game and found not far from Kiwi Camping and is the main destination for the side quest Genre: Horror Slasher.

Overview[]

The set consists of two connected huts with a few external storage areas. The entrance to the hut has some piles of reels in the corner, a fenced walkway to the other building and a corridor to the left that leads to one of the outside areas. The main corridor to the other building is initially blocked off by electrical cables, but once the quest is complete it will remain disconnected. The outside area is just a short strip of land with some boxes and scattered equipment, though there is a generator. Inside the second building is the main set, with a camera set up on a tripod, white screens, large stage lights, various props and tables that are fit for the horror movie being shot here. At the far end of the room, past the electric chair prop, is a doorway to the other outside area, where all the props are stored. There's some scrap metal and wood for the actual building though there is also some wooden tables for props and at the far end is a chained off area with chemicals and various boxes in them, likely for make up and fake blood, etc.

Strategy[]

The Dead Zone is completely devoid of special infected, including even Thugs, so getting through it is a breeze. There's a couple of Walkers in the first room and the left outside area just has Walkers and perhaps an Infected or two. A good weapon can take them out easily and if you're feeling particularly lazy with your zombie killing, a few explosive mines should deal with most of the zombies outside. The electrical wire is only a hazard until you turn off the generator, allowing access to the second room. This is far more populated, but a simple Sonic Pulse Grenade can clear out most of the zombies in the room, allowing for a simple clean-up job. Again, a mine or two outside the door will work if you're feeling lazy. Considering that the quest can be picked up quite early on in the game, if you have no Sonic Pulse Grenades or mines at that point, a Molotov Cocktail or two will achieve the same effect. The final outside areas has the most Infected, but dealing with them is relatively easy, leaving just a few Walkers to deal with. The Dead Zone itself is quite linearly structured, unlike all the others, due to the quest requiring you to complete objectives, so just follow what the quest tells you to do and you can't go wrong.

  • Zombies do not respawn after completing the side quest Genre: Horror Slasher.
  • The Chainsaw is found here on a bench outside of the main building.
  • A set of common rarity levelled Claws can be found on the table next to the green screen in the second building.
  • A metal chest is in the main room where the set is.
  • A workbench is found in an outside area.
  • For the quest, the camera is located on a tripod in the main set building while the battery for it is in the props shed outside on a metal shelf.
  • The crew all have a red skull icon on the minimap once in the dead zone, allowing them to be tracked better. This only applies on the first visit to the Dead Zone, as subsequent visits to the zone after completing the side quest are devoid of zombies.
