A Ray of Hope is a medium difficulty side quest given to the Hero by Darvin Bark in Dead Island. It must be completed in order to complete the side quest On the Air, which in turn must be completed to finish the main quest To Kill Time.
Synopsis[]
The Hero must locate Marcus Davis and help him repair the generators.
Walkthrough[]
- Talk to Darvin to start the quest.
- He explains that before you can access the Lighthouse storage room, you need to do something for him. The Lighthouse needs power, but Marcus, who was sent to check the generators in the Silver Bungalows area, hasn't reported back for hours. He wants you to go find Marcus and see what's happened to him.
- Head out of the Lighthouse and get in the car outside.
- Drive to the marked area, halfway between the Lifeguard Tower and the Lighthouse. Marcus is located behind the bungalow adjacent to the one Kim is staying in.
- There's an Infected on the road leading to Marcus, so use the vehicle to kill it before getting out.
- Marcus is trapped behind a fence leading to one of the generator bunkers. In front of him, on the other side of the fence, there's around five Walkers.
- Kill them all and talk to him when it's clear.
- He was trying to get the generator to start when he was attacked by the zombies. He needs you to go to the other generator bunker across the road and power it up. He'll stay there in case the fuses blow when you switch it all on.
- Head back to the road and go straight across, looking left and right for oncoming traffic.
- There's a bunch of Walkers who will notice you there, so be ready for a fight.
- Kill them all and head to the open area overlooking the lagoon, with various benches and a potted tree. The generator bunker is to your right. The fence has been broken down, leading to the steps down.
- The door at the bottom of the steps is locked, so you'll need to bash it down. Upon doing so, a shrill alarm will go off before breaking a few seconds later.
- There's around six switches on the generator banks. Turn them all on and watch the cutscene showing the Lighthouse light turning on and rotating.
- Now you just need to get back to Marcus. However, the noise has attracted Infected. Head up the steps and pause at the broken down fence. Two Infected will charge at you from the bush in front of you.
- Kill them both before sprinting back to Marcus. The Infected on the road will have also respawned, so kill it as well. If you're quick enough, no more will spawn.
- Talk to Marcus who will thank you for helping him. He'll remain at his generator station in case something happens.
- Head back to your car and drive back to Darvin at the Lighthouse to complete the quest and gain access to the storeroom.
Notes[]
- If the player has already started this quest by having spoken to Darvin at the Lighthouse, but exits the game at any time before speaking to Marcus, the quest will reset and all progress will be lost, thus requiring to go talk to Darvin at the Lighthouse again in order to restart it.
- In the second transformer station, there is a tool box containing the Banoi Herald excerpt #6.
- Occasionally, a Thug will be present in the station.
- The Hero is never given access to the transformer station occupied by Marcus.
- You can get two free duct tape and a free wire from the Lighthouse storeroom now, making this quest very useful for those high demand mod items, since they will respawn every time you reload the Resort area.
- If you return to the generator bunker where you met Marcus, he will be gone. However, it's likely that he's just inside the bunker itself for protection.
Glitches[]
- Occasionally, the Hero may get stuck on the stairs exiting the second transformer station and keep sliding back down.
